Ice Dogs Close December with 6 to 6 Tie
The Ice Dogs played to a 6 to 6 tie against the Bridgewater Bandits before starting the holiday break. The game was played on December 17th at Salem State College. The Ice Dogs jumped out first just 6 minutes into the game on a goal by Derek Brown assisted by Ken Santos and Kyle Anderson. The Bandits came back 4 minutes later to tie the game. The Ice Dogs would strike two more times in the first with a goal by Zak Ray assisted by John Murray and John McGrath, and then with less than a minute remaining in the first, Ryan Duggan scored assisted by Mark Moran and Zak Ray.The Bandits came out hard in the second period scoring in less than 2 minutes to come within one, but the Ice dogs would strike back in just 21 seconds on a goal by Ken Santos assisted by Kyle Anderson and Derek Brown. The Ice Dogs would strike again 5 minutes later to go up 5 to 2 on a goal by Ryan Hockney assisted by David Chiaradonna. The Bandits would finally get a break now adding two unanswered goals, one leading to a penalty against the Ice Dogs and another on the power play. The game was now too close for comfort with the Ice Dogs leading by a score of 5 to 4 at the end of two. The third period was alot like the other two, intense, hard hitting and full of high speed action. The Bandits would strike first tying the game 5 all at the 8 minute mark. The Ice Dogs would return the favor with only 5 minutes remaining in the game on a goal by Mark Moran assisted by Zak Ray and Ryan Duggan. The Ice Dogs went to a 1-2-2 defense to try to hold on to the lead, but it was not to be as the Bandits scored with 2 minutes remaining in the game. The final two minutes were nerve racking for both teams as both were playing to capitalize on any mistake. Regulation play ended in a 6 to 6 tie. With nothing to lose going into overtime, both teams played recklessly for the full 5 minutes with 6 shots a piece on goal. Goal tending was excellent at both ends of the ice with 41 saves by C.J. Palmer for the Ice Dogs. With a final score of 6 to 6 one would think defense was lacking, but that was far from the case as the Ice Dogs defense of Goldberg, Jacobs, Gallego, Powers, Sargent and Manning worked hard all night to keep the Bandits in check.
